What do soccer and golf have in common?
Well, nothing really… until now. Puma, a famous German brand for soccer footwear and apparel has acquired 100% of
the golf brand, Cobra. Cobra was owned by Fortune Brands, who decided to sell Cobra today, however specific amounts are unavailable at this time. Fortune Brands is the holding company for Titleist golf balls, and Footjoy, which are two leading companies in the golf world. What does this mean for Cobra? It is unknown as of right now; however, after many years, Cobra continued to trail in sales. Cobra’s main focus is clubs, but it trailed behind multiple brands, including Titleist.
Puma decided on the purchase because they are focusing now on a
golf brand, already selling apparel and accessories. The Chief Executive of Puma, Jochen Zeitz, has high hopes for the acquisition of Cobra and was quoted by saying,“Cobra Golf has a history of innovative performance products fused with an edge and is therefore a perfect fit for PUMA, reinforcing our overall mission of becoming the most desirable Sportlifestyle company.”
