Taken for Granted
Many golfers, professional and amateur, do not know this place exists, but every time they use a club they are taking advantage of it. The USGA Research and Test Center tests around 2500 golf clu
bs and 1000 golf balls every year. The tests performed determines whether or not the club meets the USGA specifications. The center is located in Far Hills, New Jersey. To test the products, it is important to have a consistent swing, and therefore they use a machine called the Iron Byron. The consistency matched the swing of Byron Nelson, hence the name Iron Byron. Nelson’s swing was the most consistent swing on tour, and it could only be matched by a “mechanical man.” The director of the USGA Research and Test Center has 17 employees, preferably those who have knowledge about the game of golf, but also a background higher education in engineering.
