Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel is owned by South Suburban Parks and Recreation. However, SSPR’s most elite golf course could use a facelift. The original clubhouse still stands as an outdated building. South Suburban cannot afford to renovate the clubhouse, other than some minor (but expensive) fixes. It is estimated that they will spend $115,000 on sprucing up the place, including new decorations in the hotel.

Hotel? Lone Tree still has a hotel? Yes, Lone Tree has fifteen hotel rooms located upstairs from the pro-shop and restaurant. However, the rooms are almost always vacant due to the lack of being able to compete with hotels around the area, such as the Marriot or the Extended Stay located just a couple miles away. The hotel attracts business men and women that are also in need of a conference room, and may have extra time to play golf.

South Suburban bought Lone Tree Golf Club for $4.7 million dollars in 1991, and now it may need to be a time for change. Dan Murphy, head of Life After South Suburban, has emphasized his interest in contacting Troon Golf to manage the course. Troon Golf is one of the largest golf businesses, owning and managing courses all over the world. Their main goal is service for all customers as they want them to “Experience Troon Golf.” Troon Golf would have to agree to renovate the entire clubhouse and focus on advertising. Troon Golf currently manages two golf courses in Colorado: The Ridge at Castle Pines North (Castle Pines) and Rollingstone Ranch Golf Course (Steamboat).

If you have experienced Troon Golf, whether it was at one of these Coloardo courses or in another state, it can be said that this may be one of the best options to redefine the entire community.

At this point, there are only introduction proposals for how to improve the course, but in the meantime, Lone Tree Golf Club continues to show its age and rundown features to its customers. It is this clubhouse and golf course that are known as South Suburban’s best, so many may begin to associate a negative stigma to SSPR. 1.) Your setup is more consistent. When you approach your setup, you have a guide that will allow for you to consistently arrange your body and putter to the ball.

2.) There is less of a chance of moving your putter-head while in your backswing. Often times people watch their putter-head in their peripheral which causes them to feel the need to adjust. This causes movement of the putter-head, whihc in turn will lead to an offset putt. The belly putter keeps it consistent, otherwise you would feel the twisting on your stomach.

3.) Those short putts that can seem so daunting are much more consistent when using a belly putter. This is due to the consistency factor above, but also because of the length of the putter. There is a longer stride through the ball which should be helpful for those short putts!

However,  the key to all of these improvements lies in the golfer’s urge to get fitted for the putter. Most people have different belly sizes and different heights which will effect the putter’s setup. Based on measurements (positioning of the ball and length of forearm extension) and feel, the putter extension can be cut and gripped.

Since the body works in unison with other parts, belly putters offer one of the best ways to approach an improvement in your putting game. However, it will take an adjustment to get used to!

Many guys try very hard to introduce their girlfriends or wives to the game of golf… Unsuccessfully. Many women become bored with the game, tired, or just diengaged and would rather read a book while riding in the cart. However, many women are now partipcating in golf leagues, playing with their husbands, or simply taking lessons to master the game. Arrowhead Golf Club      Arrowhead Golf Club is built around beautiful outcrops of tall, red rocks. In addition, Arrowhead has holes with spectacular views or downtown and the front range! Arrowhead is located in Littleton, just south of Wadsworth and C-470.

The Golf Club at Bear Dance      Since its opening in 2002, Bear Dance has been ranked as one of the best public courses in Colorado. Bear Dance challenges the golfer in all aspects of the game. Tree-lined fairways and the abundance of sand traps are the challenges before reaching the difficult greens! Bear Dance is located in Larkspur, with very little residential areas surrounding.

The Broadmoor Golf Club
     The Broadmoor is located in Colorado Springs. Three courses are entrenched in the Rocky Mountians, providing elevation changes, doglegs and many challenging features. Be sure to stay at the Five-Star Hotel following your round so that you can play one of the other courses the next day!

Fossil Trace Golf Club      Located in Golden, this course tends to be built around fun! Fossil Trace has natural hazards (large rocks and cliffs) that can challenge every golfer. They also have manmade hazards (a chimney and old mining equipment) strewn across the course. This course is one of the most popular for taking out guests!

Green Valley Ranch Golf Club      Green Valley Ranch golf course is another challenging course, featuring a 640 yard 18th hole. Located near DIA, the challenges may be strengthened by Mother Nature. Be sure to have your wind gear and wind game in your bag for backup!

The Raven Golf Club       The Raven is one of the most popular courses located in the mountains! It is surrounded by beautiful views of the mountainous region and challenges the golfer to make decisions with elevated tees! This course has remained one of the best public golf courses for many years! The Raven is located in Silverthorne.

Redlands Mesa      Redlands Mesa weaves around canyons and plateaus while challenging with rocks, water and large sandtraps. Though it may look like a flat course, do not be misled about the difficulty of each hole! Experience the course that has very similar characteristics of Arizona golf courses. Redlands Mesa is located in Grand Junction for all those on the western side of the Rocky Mountains!

The Ridge at Castle Pines North
    Much like Arrowhead, the Ridge offers breathtaking views of all areas of Colorado and the front range. One hole 7, you visible landmarks include DIA, Buckley Air Force Base and the Denver Tech Center. On Hole 9, the elevated tee box looks out onto the Rocky Mountains, including views of Pikes Peak and Devil’s Head. Be sure to play your tee shot on 18 from off the top of the rock! This Troon Golf Course makes service a priority. The Ridge is located in Castle Pines, just two miles west of I-25.

River Dale Dunes
      River Dale Dunes Golf Course provides a challenge for every golfer with rolling hills and enormous lakes! Before going out on the course, be sure to check yardages of each club, and straighten out that swing! River Dale Dunes is located in Brighton.

Applewood Golf Course is hosting the 5th Anual Water Hole No. 2 Golf Tournament. Proceeds will benefit the Head Start Program for pre-school children looking to advance into Kindergarten. The event details are as follows:

Cost Includes: Besides the satisfaction of helping students get a “head start” in education, the cost covers greens fees, cart fees, range balls, a breakfast burrito, two drink tickets, and a steak dinner! Prizes will also be given out after the tournament!

What is Head Start? Head Start is a program that focuses on readying Pre-school children for Kindergarten. However, what makes them more unique than other pre-schools is that the students are from low-income families. Poverty has such an impact on education, that students are not ready for Kindergarten after living in poverty for over a year. In a sense, it is an accelerated schooling program to help students in need.  These students do not have books in the homes, and education stops once they step outside of the school. This golf tournament will provide Head Start with funding for educational resources and healthy eating options for the children and their families. 17th Annual Denver Children’s Home Golf Tournament

The event will take place at Lakewood Country Club on May 21st. Lunch will be served at 12:30 with a shotgun start at 1:30.

There are two opportunities to participate in such a beneficial event, including playing or sponsorship. The entry fee to play this private golf course is $250 per golfer. Keep in mind, this is a wonderful opportunity to support those children who cannot physically be there!
